We're married!!

I can't believe its over and we're Mr & Mrs Lai :)

Its been an overwhelming few weeks.  The wedding was lovely (more on that later with pictures) - we both had a lot of fun and hope that everyone did too. We went on a lovely honeymoon and stayed at the Uma Ubud in Bali which was a really really nice break - will show u all pictures soon!

But where there is laughter there is also tears.  My Granpa (Kung Kung) passed away peacefully on June 20th. He was 82.  He was wheelchair ridden and already quite weak but he held on to see us get married.  I'm the eldest grandchild and the first to get married.  It meant alot to us. He was a loving grandpa and we will miss him dearly.

So now we have to try and get things back to normal and reminisce the good times.
Pictures to come soon!

Keep posted here!

Single digits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8 days left!!!!!!!!!!

It didnt seem that long ago, when Wei's msn nic was countingdown the days and we still had 100+ days to go. Now we are down to just 8 days. Where did the time go?

So much still needs to be done its all getting very blurry. This Sunday i will be going round with a liitle entourage of my best men and traditional match maker (My Aunt), to bring gifts for Wei family. This is the start of it all.

Haha, and now i'm looking at the screen and thinkng in my head of all the things that have to take place between now and next saturday and am wondering, where do i start. There's logistics, reception entertainment, beer runs to the border to stock up. overseas friends put up, clothes sort out , getting the house ready. Hmmm maybe there's not too much. Yikes!

K back to last day at work before the wedding.

Hi All,

Our invites should have reached all those intended, we still have a few more, so please bear with us. Things have been pretty hectic.

If you have found your way to this site as a result to the invite then please spare a few minutes to confirm if you are able to attend (Either by email or juct clicking on "comment" below). Your RSVP is very much appreciated as it will enable us to confirm numbers with the venue.

Unfortunately we have heard of some complicatins with our invites. Either with conflicting dates, or confusion with the text. If there is something your confused about with regard to the invites then please do get in touch with us.

Contact numbers and emails for RSVP's can be found on the invite cards themselves.

Hope to hear from you and see you soon.

SW Team

This is as good a time as any to give a little shout out to our awesome friends that have rolled up their sleeves and helped us immeasurably.

All the dirty work in getting these invites out is in no small part down to the super efficient SW Team. Made up of Tina, Bryan, Bev, Daryl, Fadz, Ching and Yuin (not to mention many more people helping on the fringes!). Over a 4 day stretch they managed to turn my bachelor pad (days are counting down for this too - sigh, haha) into "Wedding HQ" . Once we received the invites from the printers (lots of drama)  all the cutting, sticking, writing, additional programs had to be done to ensure we could get them out soon enough to give people notice. Lots of late nights, laughter and cackling ensued. Gee are we going to miss this!

For the most part i tried to stay out of the way, Especially from fadz, who's eye for quality control always landed me in trouble. Was back in 2nd grade all over again. Sorry cher!

Now that the drama of the invites is pretty much over, the next item on the agenda for the super duper SW Team, wil be the reception dinner entertainment.  I am worried, very worried. Obviously its best not to give to much away, and I have to admit i'm pretty much in the dark with some bits of it, but i am very sure it will be memorable. haha...

Less than 3 weeks to go.

Its all getting very exciting. Some of the Sidcotians Alex and Karen arrive this Friday and will go on a little Borneo adventure before coming to the wedding. Shapiwe, Elliott, Bennet, will be here on or around the 2nd June in time for the mayhem. Am waiting for confrimation from Matt and Angus, am really hoping they will make it. Dont forget your clubs Gus.

Owen, Ann and Olly from Cheltenham daze arrive on the 30th May following a trip down under to oz. Will have to immerse them in some Brunei Culture in the lead up to the wedding. Will likely include, the beer run to kl, durian and chickens feet. Hope you guys have strong stomachs.

As previously posted by Wei, our invites are finally here, after much drama.  We have started sending them out. Their will be an e-invite too as we dont have so many of the hard copy ones.

Wedding fever is hotting up in Brunei. Wei's aunt got hitched 2 weeks ago, and one of my cousins married a friend of mine the weekend just gone. There are two more weddings of firends after ours in June. Its bordering on an epedemic. When will it all end? haha.

Anyways I cant wait to see all you guys that i haven't seen in ages. I'll stop now before I get to carried away.

1 Month to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, in one months time we will be officially married. Off the shelves, off the market, past the point of no return. Cant wait! :-)

If its possible, Brunei actually feels hotter than usual. Could just be from the friction from the increasing rate at which my brow furrows, or the heat threatening to be unleashed by wei's alter ego "bridezilla" if someone (likely to be me, but could be flourist, card company, venue etc) drops the ball. In either case, for those of you coming from colder climates, dont forget your sunscreen.

Reminds me of the Baz Luhrman track about sunscreen.

But I digress.

On the wedding front Wei is working away like a little trooper making sure everything is arranged and orgainsed, its a bit like a miltary operation with targets, special teams, and  the like. We are expecting our invites soon both pysical and in email form. We shuold be getting them out in the coming week or so.

Cant wait to see all of you guys that are travelling in for the wedding. For some its been years and years and years. It will be very much meeting of different worlds and i cant wait to see you all in Brunei.

Hi guys,

As Steve says, the wedding preps are full steam ahead. I too am suffering the after effects of a good time.  Thankfully there was no waxing from my hens. Bangkok Survivor

Well I made it back from Bangkok in on piece, albeit with less body hair. Dont know how you girls can do waxing by choice. I was plotted against, force fed alcohol, then physically outnumbered and restrained. Serves me right for going with 22 guys i guess. Not to mention all the "tasks" I had to complete. Just scraped through. Dignity has taken a battering though.

Anyways its back to the harsh reality of wedding preparations. Constant refinements on decisions and choices. Think my head is going to explode. But that could be due to the hang over feeling i've been enduring for the last 5 days.

I would add a photo but thankfully cameras were banned. Though I reckon a few crafty ones were taken.

Photo Soooting (as some people say)

We will be heading back to Kuala Lumpur on the 1st of March for a few days so we can pick up the suit and dress. We will also be tarting ourselves up for a good old round of photo soooting (shooting).

As you can imagine I’m a bit worried about this, as it means I’m gonna have to shave, and look presentable. Maybe I wont have to, as the only pictures of Grooms in these things is of the back of their head, or far off blurry background shots with the bride taking centre stage. But I’m not bitter. Hahah.

Suit and Dresses

Hi All,

Sorry been so slack. Time to put it right.

We were in KL (Kuala Lumpur) from 20th-25th Jan 06 for Wei to have a fitting for her wedding dress and for me to find a suit. It all went surprisingly smoothly and we are each pretty happy with the way things are going.

Of course there have been the expected “I’m too fat to fit in this” and “I’ll never get the right shoes” and “I don’t know what I’m going to do with my hair”. Fortunately in these situations Wei is really good at calming me down.

BIG thank you to Keat Ching and Hoon Peow for putting us up, and also for putting up with us. Hope your wedding plans are moving along nicely. Its somehow comforting knowing there are other people we know going through similar joys.

See you two back in KL soon. :-)

Great fares

Hi all,

For all you guys that are thinking of making a holiday of coming to Brunei.  There are really good fares around the region. You have to fly through  Kuala Lumpur, but that can't be half bad if you want to visit Malaysia!

Check out http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/matf06/promoRoutes.jsp.  There are fares to all sort of places.  The deals are only valid till 26 Feb so thats not much time to plan!  [For your reference GBP 1 = MYR 6.48; USD 1 = MYR 3.71]

Happy surfing :)

The Ball is in motion

We started sending out emails this week, to inform our friends and family from far and wide of the date of our fast approaching wedding.

Thanks to all those that have have gotten back to us so quickly the Sidcot bunch seem to be pretty on the ball (Alex, Bennet, Elliot, Churchill, and Darren) or just online a lot. haha. Great to hear from you guys, and even better to hear that some of you are hoping to make it out here.

I'm sure I've missed out some people or have outdated email adresses for people. I'd like to apologise, but chances are if you didnt receive an email then you wouldnt have found your way to this site to read an apology. (Am i making any sense?)

Ok so moving on. We have a date (3rd June ) and a tenetative venue, we'll be food tasting in a couple of weeks, to firm this up. Hmmm food.

Thanks Jimmy for the comment, but think I'll pass on moving up to Bolton to live with you, thanks for the offer though. Bloody Northerners! ;-)

Ok all for now
